About Children’s Museum:

Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose has been ranked by Child Magazine as one of the top 10 children’s museums in the U.S.[1] and ranked by the London Observer as one of the top 5 science centers in the world.

The Museum’s exhibit philosophy is rooted in its mission and responds to the distinctive need for children to learn through concrete interactions — touching, exploring, manipulating and experimenting. Over 28,000 square feet of semi-permanent and travelling exhibits address the educational and cultural needs of CDM’s audience through the themes of Connections, Community and Creativity.

Exhibit galleries are fully wheelchair accessible, and offer multi-sensory, layered experiences for children of varying developmental stages, interests and backgrounds.

The Museum opened its doors in 1990, and over 3 million visitors have attended. The Museum builds and displays interactive exhibits that they believe respond to children’s diverse educational needs. The 52,000-square-foot (4,800 m2) purple building was designed by Mexico City-based architect Ricardo Legorreta.

Families had such fun building with the giant blue foam block installation during the 2010 01SJ Biennial in October that the Museum will periodically offer “Imagination Playground” to our visitors. Stop in and surprise us with your creativity!
